Penang Hill

PENANG HILL, PENANG

Penang's most famous hill station offering panoramic island views, cool weather, and historic attractions

Overview

Penang Hill, locally known as Bukit Bendera, is one of Penang's most iconic attractions. Rising approximately 833 metres above sea level, it offers breathtaking views of George Town, Penang Island, the mainland, and the Straits of Malacca.

Established as a colonial hill station during the British era, Penang Hill has long been a retreat from the tropical heat due to its cooler climate and lush natural surroundings.

Today, visitors travel to the summit via the famous Penang Hill Funicular Railway, one of the steepest funicular systems in Asia.

The hill combines natural beauty, historical landmarks, scenic viewpoints, nature trails, gardens, and family-friendly attractions.
