Genting Highlands is a mountain resort located on the Titiwangsa Mountains at around 1,800 meters above sea level.
It is often called the “City of Entertainment” due to its casinos, hotels, theme parks, and shopping malls.
The resort is one of Malaysia’s most popular weekend getaways, attracting millions of visitors annually.
Genting Highlands was developed by Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, who envisioned a cool hill resort in the mountains of Pahang as an escape from Malaysia’s tropical heat.
Construction began in 1965 in dense rainforest terrain with no proper roads or infrastructure. Workers faced steep slopes, heavy rain, and difficult logistics transporting materials uphill.
The first hotel officially opened in 1971, marking the beginning of Genting Highlands as a tourist destination. Around the same time, Malaysia’s first legal casino was established.
Genting expanded into a major resort complex with hotels, entertainment venues, amusement parks, and improved transport access from Kuala Lumpur.
Today, Genting Highlands is a world-class integrated resort featuring theme parks, shopping malls, cable cars, and international attractions such as SkyWorlds Theme Park.
