Semenggoh Wildlife Centre

SEMENGGOH WILDLIFE CENTRE, SARAWAK

A leading orangutan rehabilitation centre in Sarawak, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting endangered orangutans

Overview

Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is one of Sarawak’s most important conservation centres, located about 20 km from Kuching.

Established in 1975, the centre was created to rehabilitate orphaned and rescued orangutans and gradually reintroduce them into the wild.

Unlike a zoo, Semenggoh is a semi-wild sanctuary where orangutans roam freely within the forest reserve, coming back only during feeding times.

Visitors have the unique opportunity to observe orangutans in a natural rainforest environment, especially during feeding sessions conducted by rangers.
